As a parent
you want your child to grow and be challenged at every stage of their
development. That’s why at Ready Steady Go Kids our program is progressive
because we know your kids are too.
We offer four
distinct groups based on age and ability: Get Ready group (1.5-2.5 years), Ready
group (2.5-3 years), Steady group (3-4 years) and Go group (4-6 years). Each is
tailored to grow skills at that specific age and becomes increasingly
challenging to further expand on those skills already learnt – and to see your
child master a skill is so rewarding.
Ten
different sports are introduced over two terms, each of which are taught for two
weeks at a time. So in one term your child will learn skills for five sports
and in the following term another five sports, and then repeated again. While
it may seem a long time between revisiting a sport again, to a child it’s not.
Their brains and bodies are developing at such an astronomical rate that
they’re incorporating every skill and expanding week by week. By the time it
comes around to the first sport they did two terms prior, you’ll be surprised
at how your child quickly adapts and adds to what they’ve already learnt. This
is the marvel of the developing child!
The Get Ready group (1.5-2.5 years) is an
interactive 30-minute class that gives toddlers the opportunity to practise
their motor skills in a play-oriented environment. A combination of structured
group activities and free exploration helps to build on the key physical and
social skills that are essential for this age range. Focus is on developing your
toddler’s gross motor skills by incorporating activities such as stretching,
jumping, running and ball control. In these classes we maintain a 1:5
instructor/child ratio with classes capped at 10 children. At this age your child is still very
dependent on you so parental involvement and assistance is a must.
The Ready group (2.5-3 years) goes on to
showcase sport in fun, team-based and non-competitive environment. The concepts
taught are basic and short to keep the attention of toddlers. Some children are
very involved in the activity, while others may prefer to watch parts of the
class. It can be quite frustration as a parent at times, but this ‘observation’
is a natural part of learning. However, it is not unusual for a 2.5 year old to
seem disinterested in the class, but reproduce the activity taught perfectly at
home. As children gain confidence and learn our routines, their participation
level will naturally increase. Skills such as listening, following directions,
concentrating and participating are all emerging in the Ready group. While your child is
becoming more independent at this stage, they still rely on you quite a bit, so
parental involvement is necessary.
In the Steady group (3-4 years) listening and
following instructions becomes a lot easier. More focus is on the development
of gross motor skills (through both locomotor and non-locomotor activities),
fine motor skills (through hand-eye and foot-eye activities) and balance and
posture. Greater emphasis is placed on the sport being covered each week. At
this stage, your child will be asserting more independence and parental
involvement is not required, but always welcomed.
The last
point in our program is the Go group
(4-6 years). As your child’s skills become increasingly advanced, a faster
pace of teaching and more challenging activities are introduced. Time is spent
refining existing skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the sports
covered. When your child has graduated from the Go group they
will be ready to take on a variety of sports in primary school and beyond.
As a parent
your heart will swell with pride at every developmental stage of your child –
not only in their sporting abilities and positive attitude towards being active
and healthy, but when you see how confident they have become in their own
abilities and their desire to move forward.
